Unconventional form with Roto roof windows
The “DomoDom” house is an object of great interest in the traditional urban space. The original shape deviating from the generally accepted standards was a conscious idea of the architect. The choice of Roto roof windows was also not an accident. The wavy frame, combined with the symmetrically embedded Designo R4 windows creates a unique whole.
„Initially, it was meant to be a garage. Later on, an idea was conceived to highlight the apartment with a gable roof in modern architectural design.
The owners gave free rein... the “element” appeared.” Architect Tadeusz Lemański.
Open to light
The building, popularly known as the “Gardener's House” and by the architect as “DomoDom” is located in the estate of detached houses in Cracow. Perfectly integrated into the architecture of the whole area, it is an interesting alternative to traditional houses. The building with a total area of 70 sqm is a guest house as well as a garage. The residential part of this original structure comprises a living room with kitchen, bedroom, wardrobe and bathroom. The design concept of the house is largely focused on the role of light in the life of the household members. The relaxation area is heavily illuminated with three Roto roof windows. The garden side also features several façade glazing that provides adequate lighting for the rooms and allows residents to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature.
Modernism, post-modernism, neo-modernism
The inspiration for the creation of a house covered with metal sheet was modernism in the sense of a building that is an abstract work whose beauty stems from its functionality. Practical and comfortable – that is exactly what ‘DomoDom’ house is; it provides peace and relaxation. The house is also designed in post-modernist style. It is a very original design, resulting from the preferences of the architect, not from the progress of time. The building was erected in accordance with neomodernism, which is characterised by simplicity and yet extremely modern form.
Tadeusz Lemański, architect and creator of the ‘DomoDom’ house, in response to a question concerning the window selection criteria, briefly answered: “premium bran”. Roto roof windows offer German engineering art which, like no other in the world, is synonymous with precision as well as reliable and consistent quality. It a guarantee reflected both in the simple installation, high energy efficiency and exceptional durability.
The entire body of the building may be described in a single word – modern. The central part of the roof slope is fitted with three Roto Designo R4 roof windows, which perfectly match the titanium-zinc sheet used on the surface of the building. The roof window covering in anthracite metallic colour is a perfect reference to contemporary trends in architecture.
