Heat supply with geothermal energy
The aim of the geothermal project in Kirchweidach was to supply municipalities and commercial customers with CO₂-free energy using geothermal energy. The project presented Isoplus with various challenges, but was successfully realised within the planned timeframe.
Project details
At the beginning of 2023, Isoplus was awarded the contract for a truly remarkable geothermal project in the Kirchweidach region – as the main supplier of the piping systems with a total length of 13 kilometres. The project was initiated by the company NATURWÄRME Kirchweidach-Halsbach with the aim of supplying municipalities and commercial customers with geothermal energy.
In the first stage, the main focus was on the local heating supply of the company Gemüsebau Steiner with the aim of heating the huge greenhouse facility with an annual heat requirement of more than 100,000 MWh CO₂-free.
Josef Steiner, Managing Director of Gemüsebau Steiner: “Thanks to geothermal energy, we can heat our greenhouses here completely CO₂-free”. Steiner continues: “Everyone is talking about the energy transition and climate protection. And I believe that if you have the opportunity to make a contribution – then you simply have to do it.”
Challenges
Around 800 pipes, each 16 metres long, were laid along the entire trench, and numerous special components, such as 1.5 × 1.5 metre bends, were required to adapt to the terrain. Each individual bend was manufactured separately in our factory with the number of degrees specified or required in the plan.
- Many special components along the entire trench
- Limited storage options
- Weather-related delays
- Realisation during ongoing operations.
