Soler & Palau’s new central logistics centre for finished products in Parets is now fully operational
Following the extension of the facilities, the site now covers approximately 16.000 m², combining the 6.500 m² of the original warehouse with 9.500 m² of additional space. This represents a major increase in capacity, but also an opportunity to rethink the way the entire logistics operation is organised and managed.
The project has been about much more than simply adding square metres. The new layout allows us to distribute products more efficiently, dedicate specific areas to different product types and streamline inbound and outbound flows, making the centre better equipped to serve both the domestic market and Soler & Palau subsidiaries and international markets.
More space, used more efficiently
The centre now has capacity for approximately 18.500 pallets, 19 loading bays and close to 5.900 product references in stock.
The new warehouse mainly accommodates standard formats, including European and American pallets, making full use of the available height and floor space through high-density storage, with capacity for approximately 14.000 pallets.
The original warehouse, meanwhile, is now dedicated to larger products and non-standard pallets. This new organisation helps prevent congestion in picking and dispatch areas and ensures that each type of product is handled in the most suitable space.
In short: it is not just about having more capacity, but about making better use of it.
Making day-to-day operations easier
Despite the scale of the operation, the system makes it possible to know exactly where every pallet is at any given time.
The warehouse is managed through SAP WM, which automatically assigns storage locations and guides inbound and outbound movements. This enables thousands of product references to be managed with full traceability, keeps stock under control and reduces unnecessary movements within the facility.
Better prepared for every shipment
The extension has also enabled us to resize and reorganise the dispatch areas. The new numbered staging zones make it easier to separate and identify loads before they leave the warehouse.
The result is a more organised operation, better prepared to handle both domestic and international shipping volumes, identify each consignment more easily and reduce the risk of errors.
Soler & Palau technology, at work in our own facilities
Safety has been another key priority throughout the project.
While the original warehouse retains natural smoke and heat vents, the new extension has been equipped with a mechanical Smoke and Heat Control and Exhaust System (SCTEH) using THGT-HATCH F400 roof fans, specifically designed for smoke extraction in the event of a fire.
This solution enables smoke and heat to be extracted in a more controlled way, with far fewer openings in the roof: around 20 compared with almost 60 that would have been required with a natural smoke vent solution. This simplifies installation and reduces critical waterproofing points, an especially important advantage in logistics facilities.
The system also incorporates a Soler & Palau control system developed specifically for SCTEH applications, capable of managing ventilation by zone and coordinating operation with the alarm and sprinkler systems.
As an additional benefit, the installation can also be used to ventilate the warehouse during periods of high temperatures, helping to improve comfort for occupants.
The new extension therefore becomes a real-life showcase for Soler & Palau technology: our own equipment and control systems operating within our facilities to improve building safety and performance.
And behind it all, the people
The centre is operated by a team of 25 people, working across two shifts covering operations from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Their work is essential in turning all this infrastructure into a more agile, better organised and better prepared operation, ready to support the different markets every day.
The new central logistics centre is about much more than extending the facilities. It marks a step forward in the way finished products are managed and provides the infrastructure needed to continue supporting Soler & Palau’s growth.
In short: more capacity, better organisation and greater safety — together with better product preparation for our customers.
